Tour Overview:

Samburu National Reserve is situated about 350km north of Nairobi in the semi-arid part o Kenya. Ewaso Nyiro River, the only water source in the dry season, bisects the reserve. Apart from providing water to live in, the river is home to some of the enormous reptiles in the region. It also attracts many birds; some 300 species have already been recorded. An unusual forked palm, the doum palm, grows along the banks of this river and adds striking beauty to the panorama.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Nairobi city - Samburu National Reserve

You will be picked up from the airport with a briefing by your guide/driver. You will be driven north past the equator to the northern frontier district. Continue to the semi-arid Samburu National Reserve and check in to your campsite. Have lunch at the lodge. There will be time to settle in before your safari adventure in the afternoon. Set out for an afternoon game drive in reserve. Enjoy twice daily game drives where you will see substantial majestic elephants, lions, leopards and cheetahs and all of the ‘special five’, which include the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich. In the hot and arid lowlands of the Northern districts of Kenya, featuring doum palms and over 450 species of birds, there are exciting experiences to keep you fascinated over the next day or two. Return to the lodge before dark, settle, and have dinner in the tented lodge.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve

Set out for a whole day for an early morning game drive in the Samburu Reserve. The morning is usually the most popular game viewing time. During the early hours, temperatures are low, thus providing a favourable atmosphere for the game and the viewer. Lions, cheetahs, and leopards roam the vast grasslands in search of their next meal; it may be an unsuspecting impala or even a small one like the warthog. The spectacle of nature unfolding is always amazing to watch over the top pop-up roof.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve - Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast, enjoy a game drive en route to the gate. Drive in a southerly direction to the equator. Here, the locals do a water demonstration to qualify the position of the equator and for a small tip. After the brief stop, drive to Thompsons Falls for a photo stop, then down into the Great Rift Valley. As you ascend the eastern wall of the Rift Valley, lush coffee and tea plantations reveal themselves, and your driver guides will give you a brief talk about coffee farming in Kenya. Arrive at the hotel for check-in, and have lunch. In the afternoon, have an en-route for the game drive.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park - Maasai Mara National Reserve

Check out and drive via Narok town to Masai Mara National Reserve. The land of the Maasai tribe. The proud young Maasai warrior-nomads with plaited hair, red cloaks, and spears challenge your curiosity. The 700-square-mile reserve is the Africa of your dreams, complete with wild animals grazing amid the great rolling scape of gentle hills and acacia woodlands. Check in to your lodge and have lunch. There will be time to settle in before your first-afternoon game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve. In the afternoon, have a game drive in reserve.

Day 5-6: Maasai Mara National Reserve

Wake up and head for your breakfast. Tea, coffee and cookies will be served in the lodge. Set out for a full-day game drive in reserve. This is usually the most popular game viewing time. During the early hours, temperatures are low, thus providing a favourable atmosphere for the game and the viewer. Lion roams the vast grasslands in search of their next meal; it may be an unsuspecting impala or even a small one like the warthog. Whatever the players, the spectacle of nature unfolding is always awe-inspiring.

Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve - Lake Naivasha Park

Have morning breakfast in the lodge, then check out. Drive to Lake Naivasha, where you will have your lunch. After lunch, have your boat ride at an extra cost of $40 per person to Lake Naivasha, the only freshwater lake in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies northwest of Nairobi. It is part of the Great Rift Valley. An afternoon boat ride at extra cost among colonies of hippos will be the ideal view over Lake Naivasha. You can do many activities in Hell’s Gate, including walking, cycling, rock climbing, bird watching, and trekking through the gorge amongst the geysers; the choice is yours. Enjoy a picnic lunch, then mid-afternoon, and depart for your accommodation on Lake Naivasha for a well-earned hot shower and a cold drink.

Day 8: Lake Naivasha Park - Amboseli National Park

We depart for Amboseli via Nairobi in the morning after breakfast and drive south through Masai country to the plains below Mt. Kilimanjaro, where Amboseli is situated. After a picnic lunch en route with the majestic backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro, spectacular displays of wildlife animals like lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo and various plains plateaus game, postcard-perfect pictures are almost always guaranteed and finally, you will return to your hotel.

Day 9: Amboseli National Park

Have an early morning game drive, then return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, proceed with a day of game drives in the park with packed lunch. You'll be in search of its famous residents, like the well-known predators and their opponents, such as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and hippo, with a view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Spend a day in Amboseli National Park, with morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 10: Amboseli National Park-Nairobi

After breakfast, then drive back to Nairobi airport for the other destination.
